Jio Glass is a mixed reality technology whose launch was announced at the 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 15 July by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).

Users can use their device to attach the Jio Glass, which allows them to make video calls and hold conferences in a holographic 3D world.

Kiran Thomas, President RIL, went onstage to give a short demonstration and then said, “Hello Jio, please call Aakash and Isha,” while wearing Jio Glass. That led to a connection of Jio Glass to a call with Aakash and Isha Ambani. And while Akash was in his 3D avatar, Isha participated in the call by using a 2D interface. Both were in a virtual room visible to Thomas.

Jio Glass: Mixed Reality Technology

Jio Glass, weighing only 75 grams, can be used for virtual 3D meetings, creating holographic content, as well as making a regular video conference more interactive. Users may also view presentations with the Jio Glass on a virtual screen, and then use the technology to witness a flawless virtual experience.

Thomas commented on the product, saying, “Jio Glass is at the cutting edge of technology that provides best-in-class Mixed Reality services to give users a truly meaningful immersive experience. With Jio Glass, the traditional way of learning Geography will now be history.”

Since people are stuck in their residences during the pandemic of coronavirus, these glasses can allow users to make holographic video calls from their homes convenient. It will help schools by enabling students and faculty to create 3D virtual rooms that allow students to present themselves.

Not much has been known about the product’s features or all of the tasks it can do. The company did state, however, during the AGM that the device would reap the benefits of 5G technology, on which Jio is currently working. Jio will start evaluating their 5G services once the spectrum sales are complete. For its Jio products, RIL has partnered with Google, indicating both companies will be working together to grow this product.
